SunDance Hosts Back-To-School Donation Drive

As summer starts to wane, we’re greeted with big yellow school buses and the back-to-school aisles torn asunder. The start of a new school year brings many opportunities for the children in our communities, but it also draws attention to the problems teachers and students face when it comes to supplies. 29% of parents say they can’t afford back to school supplies for their children, and 94% of public school teachers pay out of pocket to supply their classrooms with essential items.

Our SunDance employees try to give back to the local community whenever possible. We kicked off a donation drive for A Gift for Teaching in early July. A Gift for Teaching is a local nonprofit aimed at helping Orange and Osceola County teachers stock their classrooms through their free teacher supply stores, supplied partially by donations. This store allows teachers to get necessary supplies once a month they need for their classrooms, with the average ‘shopping trip’ giving over $600 in classroom materials.

We held our supply drive for 4 weeks and donated:

  • 7 boxes of crayons
  • 4 boxes of colored pencils
  • 2 packs of highlighters
  • 5 packs of markers
  • 5 binders
  • 2 pairs of scissors
  • 33 folders
  • 2 index dividers
  • 2 notecard packs
  • 4 pencil cases
  • 235 eraser caps
  • 1 50 pencil, eraser cap, and sharpener pack
  • 12 spiral notebooks
  • 7 glue bottles
  • 26 glue sticks
  • 18 composition notebooks
  • 240 pencils
  • 30 pens
  • 1 pencil sharpener
  • 32 laptop bags
  • 1 full box of 8×11 paper, cut down to size and shrink wrapped in house into individual bundles

SunDance employees were able to fill a pallet for A Gift for Teaching to help provide our local educators with the supplies they need to ensure the children in our school districts can thrive this year. We thank our employees and management for helping make a difference in our community during this time of year!

Joanna Quentin

As a successful working artist, Joanna brings a unique perspective to every customer’s printing project.  With over twenty years in the fine art and wide format printing industry and plenty of hands-on experience, she understands that attention to detail, quality materials, and a dash of creativity is key in producing a piece that you are proud to stand behind.  Her commitment to customer satisfaction and willingness to explore “outside the box” solutions to difficult or unusual printing requests make her a welcome addition to the SunDance team.  When she is not creating commissioned equestrian artwork for her clients or art galleries she is often found jumping over fences on her Thoroughbred horse or relaxing at home with her husband and their four dogs, two cats, three turtles, and African Grey parrot.  She is also an accomplished violinist, avid amateur kayaker, and is extremely uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.
