PFAS Free: What it Means and Why it Matters
“Forever chemicals” are a growing concern across the manufacturing, packaging, and printing industries. At SunDance we are proud to operate as a completely PFAS-free facility.
What are PFAS?
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large group of synthetic chemicals used to make products resistant to water, grease, heat, and stains. They are commonly found in items like food packaging, coatings, textiles, and some printing and finishing applications.
What’s the issue?
PFAS do not break down easily in the environment or the human body. Over time they accumulate in soil, water, wildlife, and people—earning them the nickname “forever chemicals.” Studies have linked certain PFAS to potential health and environmental risks, prompting increased regulation and consumer awareness.
As regulators and brands alike take a closer look at material safety, PFAS are increasingly being phased out. States are introducing bans on PFAS in food packaging, retailers are tightening material requirements, and consumers are actively seeking safer, cleaner alternatives. So as we see it, eliminating PFAS isn’t a marketing trend; it’s the right thing to do.
Why SunDance is PFAS-Free
At SunDance, sustainability is one of our core goals. As a certified Sustainable Green Printer (SGP), we continuously evaluate our materials, processes, and partners to reduce environmental impact without compromising quality.
Choosing to be a PFAS-free facility means
- Safer materials for the environment and our community
- Reduced risk for our clients as regulations evolve
- Greater transparency throughout the supply chain
- Confidence that printed and packaged products meet modern sustainability expectations
We work closely with suppliers to ensure inks, substrates, coatings, and finishing processes meet PFAS-free standards, and we help clients navigate options that support both performance and responsibility.
Sustainability is an ongoing process, not a destination. Being PFAS-free is one of many ways SunDance continues to invest in safer, smarter manufacturing for our clients, our employees, and our planet.
