Embossing Cheat Sheet
Embossing and/or debossing can take your project to the next level. A metal plate containing an image in relief is pressed into the paper using heat and pressure to create a raised (emboss) or lowered (deboss) image.

Embossing & Debossing Tips
- Heavier cover-weight papers support greater embossing depth than a thinner paper.
- Consider making your graphics or typography slightly larger to enhance the effect.
- Allow a half-inch margin from the edge of the trim line on a finished piece.
- A textured paper will provide a greater contrast because the embossed area becomes smooth.
- Blind embossing looks best on dark, flat backgrounds or with some finishing applied on top.
- Consider the reverse side. Hide or embrace the reverse pattern and incorporate it into your design.
- Very fine lines as do not emboss well, particularly on thicker materials. A fine line on a thick or heavy stock is a very subtle effect.
