Why a Powder-Proof Zipper

The most used zipper type for pouches is one similar to those used on food storage bags: an interlocking rib-and-groove. Our child resistant zipper uses the same method, albeit slightly more complicated. It works great to package solid or even granular products with this kind of closure, but it is not ideal for fine powders. As the packaging is opened and closed, powder can get into the grooves and keep the pouch from completely sealing. The powder-proof zipper closes airtight even if/when some powder gets in it.

What is a Powder Zipper?

Some powder zippers are designed as a hook-and-hook plastic, working similarly to textile hook-and-eye closures. But hook-and-hook styles allow air to pass through, causing faster product spoilage and even risking spillage.

The powder-proof zipper SunDance offers uses five sets of interlocking channels designed to fully engage even when small particles are present. It reliably holds air or liquid while still being an easy open and press close you hear and feel. It is made of PE (polyethylene) so can be part of a completely recyclable PE/PE pouch. Using this closure means improved seal reliability and a better long-term consumer experience.
